Be/Longing I: Light/Shadow

Research Process: Four mature artists from Taiwan, USA, Japan, Indonesia

Be/Longing: Creative Process - World Premiere March 21st/22nd 2014

"In the light along this journey of life, I learn how to dance. In the shadow of the journey, I learn how to make a dance."

Kun-Yang Lin

Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers presents Be/Longing: Light/Shadow, a 65 minute, multi-disciplinary world premiere. The piece is inspired in part by visual artist Lygia Pape and Anish Kapoor, the Persian poet and philosopher Rumi, the metaphor of the labyrinth and mandala as a journey to our own light, and Lin's latest movement research along the Bedog River in Indonesia. The months-long process of distilling these multicultural stimulants in the studio with the diverse team of KYL/D's dancers, and collaborating with mandala artist Tatiana Arias, master puppet artist Hua Hua Zhang, award-wining composer, Cory Neale and lighting desinger Stephen Petrilli have led to a new work that explores our light and shadows and speaks to individual and collective journey from gravity to grace.
