Tuesdays from 11:00am-12:15pm
Final Class of the Season: 4/25/23
Class Description: CHI Awareness Practice is the foundational technique for Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers (KYL/D). It explores the spaces where Western dance forms including ballet, modern, and post-modern meet the impulses of Eastern philosophies, including Taoism and Zen Buddhism. The class focuses on how, through modulation of breath (or “chi” in Mandarin), weight and weightlessness co-exist simultaneously and energy seamlessly transitions among explosive bursts of rapid, expansive phrase work, and absolute stillness. Class begins quietly and gradually builds in complexity, culminating in dynamic phrase work. CHI Awareness Practice reflects Lin’s conception of dance as the ultimate integration of body, spirit and mind. Learn about teacher and KYL/D founder, Kun-Yang Lin HERE

Advanced Floorwork with Hillary Pearson: Monday’s from 7:30-9:00pm
Description: This is a high-energy, modern-based movement class geared toward the intermediate and advanced dancer. The class is structured to engage the physical sensations through the interplay of various elements: repetition, momentum, relationships with the floor, and weight transfer. The class will move in and out of the floor with focus on the fluidity of transitions and the integration/organization of the spine and pelvis, within the choreographed movement. The significant use of inversions and floorwork will be used to strengthen, challenge and develop a new partnership with the floor. Be advised that this class is high intensity, with a lot of work in and out of the floor, so please wear layers that cover your limbs. Knee pads are recommended, but not required. Questions?
