This past Saturday, January 28, 2017 marked the Chinese new year, and the year of the Rooster! We hope this year brings everyone good health and happiness!

If you would like a summary of KYL/D’s 2016 highlights, check out our earlier blog post here: (http://www.kyld.org/kyld-2016-highlights) . This year, KYL/D is starting off with more spectacular dance events and some new opportunities to see the company in action.

What's Happening in 2017:

First up, KYL/D’s 31st Inhale will be held on February 24th at 7:30PM. KYL/D has been giving emerging and established artists the opportunity to show work in a curated mixed bill show at our dance center, CHI Movement Arts Center. KYL/D’s company member, Jessica Warchal-King, curates the quarterly show and organizes the audience feedback to share with the choreographers after the show. The event is a great way to support and meet fellow Philly artists at the price of a movie ticket.

  • Interested in presenting your choreography at our center? We will have another Inhale showcase on May 12th. Continue to check our INHALE PAGE for updates.

Secondly, do you remember our post about KYL/D’s Nov. fundraiser, “You Be the Judge?” Well also in February, the winning team from our dance contest will have the unique opportunity to watch rehearsal and talk with the artists.

In March and April, we welcome YOU to our center to learn more about the creation, process, and execution of KYL/D’s works HOME/S. 9th St.Santuario, and ONE-Immortal Game (aka Chess). On March 16th we invite the public to observe rehearsal from 7:30-9PM. Kun-Yang will explain and deconstruct the process of creating HOME/S. 9th St. On March 30th from 7:30-9PM, the piece deconstructed will be the company’s latest work, Santuario, and all ticket proceeds will go to our youth education programming. On April 13th, the final open studio event will be held from 7:30-9PM. This night, Kun-Yang will discuss and present ONE-Immortal Game (aka Chess). All events will be posted on our upcoming events page soon with more details and ticket info, stay tuned!

Additionally in April, possibly our favorite week of the year, Kun Yang-Lin Dancers will have its 2017 home season performances at the Prince Theater from April 27-29th. During this week, Santuario will have its world premiere, along with the revitalization of ONE-Immortal Game

Beginning May 14th, the company will be on break, but don’t miss us too much because July 24th – July 28th, KYL/D will be holding our annual audition-shop! The audition-shop is a audition workshop for dancers to come out and be considered to join the KYL/D family. Or, dancers can take the class as only a class. KYL/D’s audition-shop is unique because it spans 5 days, meaning each dancer will be seen and have opportunities to work with company members, receive feedback, and grow over the course of the week.

Not ready to present your work at the May 12th Inhale? No need to worry, CHIMAC will be hosting another Inhale showcase on August 4th. Also taking place in August, Kun-Yang will be returning to Temple University as a professor in the dance department. As a Temple student myself, I am thrilled to have Kun-Yang back in the Temple University classrooms.

We will keep you updated on more events and the details as we get closer to our events.

In addition to all the awesome events I mentioned, KYL/D also holds open classes for intermediate/advanced dancers to come and enjoy. The calendar with our studio classes is here http://www.kyld.org/class-schedule

KYL/D would not be able to create these events without the love and support of our fans. We encourage you all to attend our Inhale showcases, open studio sessions, performances, and classes throughout the year. I wish you all a successful and beautiful 2017!
